Albertville is located in the French Alps
in the depertement Savoie (73).
It is part of the region Auvergne Rhone Alpes.
The city was founded in the first part of the 19th century
by Charles Albert, King of Sardaigne (1798 - 1849).

The town is at the confluence of the Isère and its tributary the Arly.
Albertville markes the junction
of the Tarentaise, Beaufortain and Val d'Arly valleys.
The town's geographical location enabled made it possible
to host the XVIth Winter Olympics in 1992,
even though many events took place in the many surrounding resorts.
